And I've finished the Alice Childress quote piece. For X-mas, I received a light-kit and a nice Nikon camera, so now my collage pictures should look much brighter and more detailed. "Snowflakes" is the first collage I've taken pictures of with my new camera and kit.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a fun holiday - did you get any fun gifts?

Iguana
Here's another piece inspired by one of my trips to the National Zoo in DC, when I stopped by the Reptile House. I'm always finding compositions for future works of art there when I stroll around with my camera.

Progress Picture #2: Snowflakes
Here's the second progress picture for my latest piece. It's practically done--all I'll need to do is add the Alice Childress quote while touching up a few areas.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Mine was a busy one filled with holiday parties and plenty of eating. Whew, who would have thought that eating could wear you out?

Progress Picture #1: Snowflakes
Due to request, I've started working on a collage that illustrates the following quote by Alice Childress, "Like snowflakes, the human pattern is never cast twice."
Here's the beginning sketch for the piece:

Here's the beginning sketch for the piece:

Sometimes my sketches are used simply as guides for my pieces while other times I follow them pretty closely. This sketch is going to be used simply as a rough idea of the direction I want to go in. After collaging the figures, I'm going to lay down the text with magazine strips.

Scottish Terrier
Yet another dog breed for my dog series. I have a couple more that I'm planning on doing, and then I think I'll look into creating a number of cat portraits.
Anyway, here it is:

Mr. Whiskers the Blue Seal
Whew, it's been a busy week. Hope everyone is enjoy the holiday season - I've been busy with a lot of non-art related things, but once the new year rolls by, I'll have a lot more time to focus on my studio work.
Here's another one of my mini collages that's part of my winter series for my Etsy store:

Jack Russell Terrier
Here's the third and last dog collage I created this past weekend. I think I'll work on a few more dog portraits this upcoming weekend--I like the idea of illustrating a number of dog breeds.

The Smiling Golden Retriever
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. We got a little bit of snow the other day here--so it's really feeling like winter. I also had a chance to work on a few small dog collages for my Etsy shop. Here's the first one I've listed in the shop:

Looking like Hollywood
I've finished my most recent figurative piece at the moment - I might use this one for my upcoming exhibition in July. In general, I'm going to put my figurative work on hold for this exhibition and start focusing more on producing animal collages for my other show.
