Progress Picture #1: Snacking

Here's a light sketch of the next portrait I'm planning to do. I'll probably work on sketching out a couple more future portraits tonight.

And thanks for every one's feedback. I'm planning on submitting the gorilla and the kitten collage for an upcoming juried miniatures exhibition.

The Curious Kitten

Here's the third mini collage I've done. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to enter this one into the miniatures juried exhibition. However, for my second entry, I'm not sure if I should enter the mini portrait or mini portrait of a gorilla--both are collages that I posted below. Any ideas on which one I should choose would be much appreciated.

Mini Portrait and News of Exhibitions

"Figure up-close"

Today I heard back about the solo exhibition I applied for--turns out I've been selected to have an exhibition. This will be my first solo exhibition and it won't be until 2010--the month of the exhibition is yet to be determined. So now I know what I'll be doing in the year 2009--lots of portraiture collaging in order to prepare for this.

Portrait of a Gorilla

"Portrait of a Gorilla"
5"x7"

I think it's funny that the gorilla went from looking like an angry and wild creature to a wizened and contemplative animal. I'll set this one aside and perhaps work on it more some other day. But for now, it's finished.

Hope you had a happy Monday!

Gorilla Progress Picture

A miniature exhibition is coming up so I started this gorilla portrait for it. The piece is 5"x7" and since I'm not used to working so small, I decided to put down fragments of actual photos of gorillas to aide me in the composition of this piece. You can see I haven't quite collaged every spot, but I'm getting there.

I'm realizing I've really been slacking on the posts in October. Let's hope November will be better.

Louie

Collage on cardboard

The dog collage I did before this one was of a dog that I thought was named Louie. Turns out this is the real Louie, and the last dog was Jonny. Anyway, I finished my last dog portrait in the series of commissioned pieces for one of my clients. Next week I have a meeting at a gallery that might possibly put my work on display.

I've been extremely busy with work these days, but now things have cooled down and I will be able to focus more on art making (hopefully). I'll try to get started on another piece tonight or tomorrow night. I hope everything is going well with everyone!

Exhibition Prep

Today I'm getting started on my fifth dog portrait (the last in a series of commissions for one of my clients). I also worked on choosing pieces to submit for the solo jurying process that will occur in about a week or so--I had to pick five pieces and the ones I chose are listed below. I worked on framing four of the pieces and then packing them up in paper. The third image below is the fifth piece that I haven't gotten around to framing just yet.

Art on the Avenue

Art on the Avenue was yesterday and I thought it was a great experience. However, I'm not sure if I'll do any outdoor festivals in the future. If I do, I'll have to work on building my inventory up. Also, I think I should have more prints of my artwork as opposed to actual works of art. I noticed that many of the people liked buying cheaper items--such as my magnets and cards. I thought it was overall, a successful day, and I enjoyed hearing what people thought of my work, as well as sharing it with more people in the community. It's been quite an experience, searching for the right market for my work.

Below I have a few pictures of my booth during the event:

Jonny

Collage on cardboard

I have one more collage to do in this commission series before I'm finished. In other news, I'm working on last minute work for Art on the Avenue which will be on Saturday. This will be my first time ever doing an outdoor festival. Depending on how much I like it, I may or may not do more in the future.
