Getting Started

I just started with my self-portrait--of course it has a long way to go before being finished, but here's the rough sketch and blocking-in of color that I've done thus far. I've also noticed that I have such a serious expression--for some reason my self-portraits are always like this. I think I'll aim for a different expression for the next one.

Anyway, I'll work on this more next week. Have a wonderful weekend and a happy Monday!

Smirk

I finished the portrait and just made a few small changes from the last progress picture. Anyway, I've begun a self-portrait piece, and since I always struggle with those the most, we shall see how it progresses.

I just finished this one--and stayed up a little too late working on it. Anyway, I'm actually doing a series of dog portraits for commission work. There will be a few others in the future scattered here and there in my posts.

Progress Picture #3: Smirk

Smirk by collage artist Megan Coyle

I'm almost done with this one! I think I just need one more session with it before I'm satisfied. There are a few details I want to work on with the face, as well as making the shirt a little less abstract, and making the background more consistent.

I probably won't work on this much tomorrow since I'm planning on getting started with my next commissioned piece.

Progress Picture #2: Smirk

I worked on blocking in a lot of the color in this piece, but I still have a little bit more to do before I can start working on the detail.

Progress Picture #1: Smirk

The portrait piece that I just started. More to come tomorrow, unless I get distracted with something else.

I've gotten started with sketching out another portrait. If I get around to collaging it, I'll post pictures of that one as well.

I'll probably jump back into this one later to tweak a few spots. As for my next piece, I think I'll turn back to portraiture.

Pink Flowers

I saw these funny looking flowers in the butterfly garden on the mall in Washington, D.C., and I thought I'd do a collage of them. For my next piece, I think I'll create another animal collage.

Here's a quick, kind of abstract collage I just finished.

Smile

Here's the finished portrait. It took me a little longer than I expected it to. I think I might submit this one to the next Art League juried exhibition in September. Also, I gave the "Lily" collage to its owner who really liked it, which always makes my day.

Now I'm off to work on another mini collage and hopefully get some matting done for Art on the Avenue.

Progress Picture #2: Smile

I'm getting close to finishing this one. I've reshaped his head (and thank goodness, his nose no longer looks ridiculously long), worked on blocking in the color of his shirt, but have yet to work on his arm. The background could also do with a little work.

In the next couple of days, if I have time to work on this, I'll post the finished piece.

Lily

I finished the commissioned dog collage tonight--much to my surprise. I thought it would take me at least another day, even though the piece is fairly small. Now I'll have some time to work on the portrait collage tomorrow.

Progress Picture #1: Smile

I'm about half-way done with the portrait. What I like about taking pictures of my progress is it's another way that I can critique my work--it's like taking a step back and figuring out which areas aren't working. I'll need to reshape the sitter's head as well as work on his arm a bit. Later today I'm going to get started on the dog collage. Hopefully, by tomorrow, I'll finish it.

Cone Flower

I just finished this mini-flower collage. I'm working on a bunch of projects all at once, so hopefully I'll have something completed by tomorrow--but if not, you'll know what I'll be doing--busy collaging. Today I also got started on making sketches for a commissioned piece of a dog, and a couple of days ago I got started on another fairly large portrait.
